Blue Kallio vase designed by Kaj Blomqvist for Oy Kumela. This vase has a strong, sculptural shape with a textured surface that resembles the rough surface of a rock. The texture catches the light from different angles, giving the blue glass a beautiful depth and making the vase interesting from each side.

The Kallio series was designed by Kaj Blomqvist for the Finnish glass manufacturer Kumela Oy around 1969 and produced during the 1970s. Kallio means “rock” in Finnish, a fitting name for the distinctive surface of the design. The vase is mould-blown, resulting in its thick walls and characteristic textured finish.

This is the blue version, a less common colour within the Kallio series. A beautiful piece of Finnish art glass that works just as well on its own as with a few branches or flowers. The vase is in great condition and signed on the bottom as can be seen in the pictures.
