Braun HiFi set consisting of a Braun Regie 450 receiver, PS 500 turntable and a pair of L8070 HE speakers, designed by Dieter Rams and produced in West-Germany. We put this set together as a complete system, combining some of Braun’s best-known HiFi components from the late 1960s and early 1970s, together with the later L8070 HE speakers.

Dieter Rams was the head of design at Braun from 1961 and played a major role in establishing the company’s highly influential approach to industrial design. His work for Braun was based on simplicity, functionality and removing anything unnecessary from a product. Many of his designs from this period have become classics of modern industrial design and later influenced designers such as Apple’s Jony Ive.

Braun Regie 450
The Regie 450 is a stereo receiver from Braun’s classic HiFi range, combining a radio tuner and amplifier in one clean and compact unit. It delivers 2 × 30 watts into 4 ohms and has connections for turntables, tape equipment and speakers. Like much of Braun’s HiFi equipment from this period, the controls and layout are kept very clear and functional, with the design doing very little more than necessary.

Braun PS 500
The PS 500 is one of Braun’s most impressive turntables from this period and was introduced in 1968. It has a heavy, dynamically balanced die-cast platter, a four-pole synchronous motor and four speeds, including 78 rpm. The tonearm was designed by Braun and features adjustable tracking force and anti-skating, while an automatic lift raises the arm at the end of a record. The PS 500 was produced in Germany from 1968 to 1976 and was one of Braun’s top turntables.

Braun L8070 HE Speakers
The L8070 HE speakers are compact three-way speakers with a 210 mm woofer, 50 mm midrange dome and 19 mm tweeter. The “HE” stands for High Efficiency, and the speakers have an efficiency of 90 dB. Their relatively compact size makes them easy to place on a shelf or against a wall, while the simple black cabinets fit beautifully with the rest of the Braun system. The L8070 HE was produced in Germany from 1980 to 1982.

We put the three components together as a complete set because they work so well visually and functionally. The different generations of Braun HiFi design come together nicely, creating a very clean and cohesive system with plenty of character.

The set is in great condition with normal sigs of use as can be seen in the pictures. Both the amplifier and turntable have been checked and serviced by a technician and all component are currently in working condition.
