Usually ready in 24 hoursSuper rare Artek Model X601 stool designed by Alvar Aalto. This is the square stool version of Aalto's X-leg or Fan leg which was developed by Alvar Aalto in 1954. The leg is made from different pieces of birch wood which have been glued together to form it's shape. The legs are then dowelled to the seat, making the overall construction very stable. It's truly a stunning piece of design!
This stool is made from Birch wood with a veneered top. It can either be used as a stool, but would also work great as a side table. It's in a beautiful vintage condition with a nice patina and still completely original. It is also marked on the bottom as can be seen in the pictures.
Alvar Aalto, together with carpenter Otto Korhonen, began experimenting with bending solid wood in the late 1920s. The collaboration resulted in an L-leg, which was an invention that took a step towards the mass production of Aalto’s furniture. Alvar Aalto patented the L-leg bending technique in 1933. L-leg became to be the standard component for Aalto’s furniture design and based on the invention also Y-leg and X-leg were later developed.
