Artek 402 "Atelje" Lounge Chair by Alvar Aalto (Grey)
Two early Artek 402 Lounge Chairs from the 1940s. Designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933 these lounge chairs are also known by the name: Atelje. These chairs have a more lightweight structure to the famous Tank chair. It's made from a flexible birch wooden frame which makes these chairs extremely comfortable. The 402 armchair is one of the pieces of furniture introduced by Alvar Aalto in 1933 in London at the Fornum & Mason department store's exhibition and has been in their catalog for almost hundred years, and his designs still feel modern!
These two editions are from the 1940s and have been reupholstered in the past with this nice grey stoft fabric. We believe the wood was also stained in when they were reupholstered. They came from a complete seating set from the same owner as the hallway chair we recently sold already. One of the chairs still has it's original stamp which dates it back to the 1940s. Both chairs are in great condition apart from two small wears on the back corner of the seat of one of the chairs (this is also the chair with the stamp). Besides that they are still in great condition as can be seen in the pictures.
