This is the chair that drastically changed Pastoe's course after the Second World War. This chairs was produced in the 1940s and its new design and manufacturing process changed the 'standard chair' drastically. In the years after WO2 everything needed to be rebuild and this needed to be done quickly. This brought a new wave of developments with it in the manufacturing. Also furniture needed to be made faster and in larger quantities. Dirk Braakman, father of well known designer Cees Braakman, started this process with Pastoe in the 1940s with the start of using steam-bending techniques. The seat and backrest of this chair are made using this technique where pieces of plywood were pressed and glued into it's current shape. The base of this chair is made from solid oak and the seat and backrest are from birch plywood.
This chair was the beginning of a new era and the start of a new Pastoe. This Irene chair has been fully restored as it was in poor condition when we received it. It's been completely taken apart and re-glued and refinished. It's in good condition again and a true museum piece.
